Winter has finally left us and now we are all waiting that Texas heat to arrive. Just as it is important to prep your foundation for the colder weather, it is just as imperative to manage during the warmer weather.
Today, we will touch on three tips to keep your foundation protected during these longer days.
Tip #1: Maintain Moisture
Due to the fact that Central Texas soil is very expansive, it is a necessity to make sure you don’t let the soil be sucked dry of moisture. Uneven moisture balance around your foundation can cause wear and tear on the slab. To combat this, we highly recommend installing soaker hoses around the home’s perimeter to keep the concrete foundation’s footings from sinking.
Tip #2: Fill Sunken Areas
Another thing that happens when the sun is out longer is soil tends to erode away from your foundation. This can also cause your slab to move some. Buy some extra soil and make sure that you fill in the areas that are sunken in around your home.
Tip #3: Keep Track of Cracks
One of the most visible ways to know if you are experiencing foundation issues are cracks on your walls, ceilings, and floors. Take photos or measurements of these and review the differences from week to week. If you see them growing fast, do not hesitate to reach out to us to evaluate your home foundation. The heat is one reason for foundation movement leading to problems.
These are just a few tips to help you maintain one of your most treasured possessions. We have written other posts that will help you with your concrete slab foundation. Also, do not hesitate to reach out to us.
